The physicians also have a strong interest in promising new agents that can be used alone or in combination with standard accepted therapies. The physicians maintain a membership in the University of Chicago's Phase II Consortium and have participated directly with numerous pharmaceutical companies, opening doors to the promising new agents that could become the standard therapy of tomorrow. Since 2004, Illinois CancerCare has been a member of Translational Oncology Research International (TORI), a nonprofit clinical research organization that collaborates with UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center. Illinois CancerCare and IORA have a history of bringing quality, groundbreaking research opportunities to the people of central Illinois both in the treatment and in the prevention of cancer. Illinois CancerCare played a part in early research of drugs like Oxaliplatin, CPT-11, and Procrit, which have become very important parts of the arsenal of chemotherapy and supportive drugs.
Currently, the IORA has clinical trials for many types of cancers. Therapies include many new biological agents and targeting compounds.
