Illinois CancerCare Clinic Affiliation Peoria
Work History Kami has worked in Family Practice for 11 years. Kami focused on women and children with an emphasis on preventive health before returning to oncology.
Hobbies/Interests “I enjoy walking, biking, reading, and work closely with my kids' activities. I also volunteer at my church in the children's department. I love hanging out with friends and family and traveling to anywhere!”
Why did you choose oncology? “I started in Oncology as a new grad RN in 1987 and worked in Chicago in the oncology field for 4 years before moving to MN. I decided to join ICC to re-establish my work in oncology due to my interest in the fast pace and changing environment with constant challenges to learn. I also love having the opportunity to work with the breast cancer patients and provide support and education to them.”
Why did you choose Peoria, Illinois, to practice when you could have gone anywhere in the country? “I moved back to Peoria after being gone 20 plus years to be close to family again. I appreciate the Midwest values and friends in this area. I live with my husband and 2 children.”
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer? “My advice to patients upon diagnosis is to reach out to those who support you, think positively, and surround yourself with others who do the same. Take time to laugh and rest and play every day.” |
