What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine? “The molecular approach to cancer care.”
Why did you choose oncology? “Oncology is an exciting, ever-changing field that allows me to be on the cutting edge of scientific developments and provide up-to-date treatments for my patients while giving me the opportunity to form close interpersonal relationships.”
Why did you choose Peoria, Illinois, to practice when you could have gone anywhere in the country? “Being the son of one of the founding physicians would seem to make the choice a no-brainer; however, several factors influenced my decision to come to Peoria. It is an outstanding practice and did not compare to the other practices I considered. The opportunities for research and level of specialty care rival many academic programs. Proximity to family and a small-city atmosphere also weighed heavily in our decision.”
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer? “To hear that you have been diagnosed with cancer is, I’m sure, an incredibly difficult thing. We at Illinois CancerCare and the Peoria Cancer Center are here to help you through these strenuous times and help provide advice, emotional support and treatments. Please allow us to help you, and don’t take the full burden on yourself.” |
