Education Dr. Fishkin graduated from Omaha Central High School and attended Creighton University for his undergraduate degree and doctorate in medicine. He completed an internship and a residency in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma, and he pursued his fellowship in hematology/oncology in San Francisco at Letterman Army Medical Center.
Medical Specialties Areas of specialty within practice: hematology, internal medicine and medical oncology. He sees patients in all areas but maintains a special interest in lung and thoracic malignancies, genito-urinary malignancies, lymphoma and myeloma and general hematology.

Work History He served in the U.S. Army in Honolulu, Hawaii, at Tripler Army Medical Center as a staff hematologist and medical oncologist. He was also an assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of Hawaii. He teaches at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.

What medical change has impacted the field of cancer the most since you began practicing medicine? “The molecular biology of cancer.”
Why did you choose oncology? “It was an emerging area of medicine.”
Why did you choose Peoria, Illinois, to practice when you could have gone anywhere in the country? “Consistently among the highest pollen counts in the spring, summer and fall.”
Do you have any advice to give patients after they have been diagnosed with cancer? “Exercise.” |
