He attended college at the North Central College in Naperville, Illinois, and completed medical school training at the University of Illinois at the Champaign-Urbana and Peoria campuses. He completed his residency in internal medicine and subspecialty hematology fellowship training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
